MISSION
DESIGN EXCHANGE is a socially innovative business model created and funded by architect and designer Sean Carlson Perry. Recognizing the impact of our aesthetic environment on healing, decision making, emotional responses and self image, DESIGN EXCHANGE donates redesigned spaces, materials, and furnishings to under-served individuals, communities, and organizations in NYC.
Why is this new business model so important?
19% of senior citizens in New York live below the poverty line, 45% of children in New York live in households with less than half the income necessary to meet basic living expenses, and 74,000 New Yorkers fell into poverty last year. The interior design and architecture industry is uniquely positioned to help these residents overcome the obstacles of poverty, by providing healthy environments in which residents can feel safe and empowered.
DESIGN EXCHANGE is bringing designers, architects, and firms together with already-established organizations dedicated to assisting the underserved in NYC. Ready to get involved? Here's how:
Interior Designers, Architects, and Design Firms can become members of DESIGN EXCHANGE by pledging to donate a portion of the profits from every completed project to the DESIGN EXCHANGE fund, which allows DESIGN EXCHANGE to purchase materials and furnishings for our pro-bono projects. Reach out to us using the form below if you are ready to become a DESIGN EXCHANGE member.
Anyone can donate to DESIGN EXCHANGE. Architects and interior designers are encouraged to donate time and labor to DESIGN EXCHANGE projects. Because DESIGN EXCHANGE furnishes all projects pro-bono, we also accept donations of new and lightly-used furniture and furnishings. And what non-profit can turn down the gift of green? Angel investors are always welcome. Give us a shout through the form below to let us know how you want to help.
NYC Non-Profits who serve senior citizens, the LGBTQ community, individuals, and families in need can partner with DESIGN EXCHANGE. We are currently accepting partners! Please send us a message using the form below to let us know how we can help you help others.
